ACCESSIBILITY STATEMENT

Academy94 is committed to making our website, online platform, education, events and physical studios welcoming and usable for as many people as reasonably possible. We recognise that access needs differ and that barriers may be physical, sensory, cognitive, neurological, communication-related, financial, cultural or digital.
We aim to treat every person with dignity and respect and to provide reasonable adjustments for disabled people. We welcome DJs, producers, artists, students, customers, visitors and colleagues without discrimination because of disability, race, colour, nationality, ethnic or national origin, religion or belief, sex, sexual orientation, gender reassignment or trans status, pregnancy or maternity, marriage or civil partnership, age, caring responsibilities or any other status protected by law.

Email team@academy94.co.uk or call 0113 460 4323. You may contact us yourself or through a parent, guardian, carer, personal assistant, interpreter, advocate, support worker or social worker.
Please tell us the service, page, event, course or visit concerned; the barrier you encountered or expect to encounter; and the adjustment or alternative format that would help. You do not need to disclose more medical information than is reasonably necessary for us to understand and respond to the request.
2. Website and online platform
We are working towards the Web Content Accessibility Guidelines (WCAG) 2.2 at level AA. This is an ongoing programme rather than a claim that every page, plugin, embedded service or historic item already meets every success criterion.
Our accessibility work includes, where reasonably practicable:
- clear page titles, headings, labels and link purposes;
- keyboard-accessible navigation and visible focus indicators;
- support for browser zoom, text resizing and responsive reflow;
- colour contrast that does not rely on colour alone to communicate meaning;
- text alternatives for meaningful images and controls;
- captions, transcripts or equivalent alternatives for learning media where available;
- plain, consistent instructions and useful error messages for forms;
- reasonable time to complete important tasks; and
- testing key journeys with common assistive technologies and mobile devices.
2.1 How to adapt the site
Most modern browsers allow you to zoom, enlarge text, change colours, use reading mode, navigate by keyboard and use screen readers or voice control. The site is designed to work across current desktop, tablet and mobile browsers. If a feature does not work with your assistive technology, contact us and we will try to provide the information or complete the task through an accessible alternative.
2.2 Third-party services and known limitations
Parts of the website use third-party services for payments, bookings, video, social-media connections, maps, analytics and learning. Their accessibility may be outside our direct control. Some older documents, videos, generated reports, dashboards or embedded interfaces may not yet have complete captions, transcripts, text alternatives, keyboard support or ideal reflow at high zoom.
We are prioritising the journeys used to browse courses, buy products and tickets, manage an account, book sessions, access tutorials and use the Artist Dashboard. If you encounter a barrier, tell us which page and what technology you were using. We will investigate and, where reasonably possible, provide an accessible alternative while the underlying issue is corrected.
3. Visiting Academy94
Academy94 is based at Crown House, 94 Armley Road, Leeds, England, LS12 2EJ, United Kingdom. Access arrangements can vary by studio, room, event layout and time of visit, so please contact us before travelling if you require step-free access, an accessible parking space, assistance from the entrance, a particular seating position or another adjustment.
3.1 Parking and arrival
Free on-site parking is available, including parking intended for disabled visitors. Spaces and routes can be affected by building or event activity, so advance notice helps us keep a suitable space available and explain the best entrance and arrival point. Crown House has on-site presence around the clock; Academy94 sessions, visits and support remain subject to our published hours and your confirmed booking.
The LS12 2EJ site can be reached from Leeds and surrounding areas by road, taxi and local public transport, with onward connections from Leeds railway and bus services. Routes, stops and step-free availability can change. Contact us for current arrival guidance or use an accessible journey-planning service before travelling.
3.2 Inside the building
We can discuss entrance routes, room access, seating, rest breaks, toilets and other on-site amenities in advance. Where a room or activity presents an access barrier, we will consider a reasonable alternative room, layout, time, format or remote option where one is available and suitable.
Assistance dogs are welcome subject to any essential safety restriction. Please let us know in advance so that we can plan a suitable route and space. Personal assistants, carers, interpreters, advocates, support workers and social workers are also welcome where their presence is required for access, communication, wellbeing or safeguarding.
3.3 Health, safety and access map
We can provide a visual health, safety and access map of the Crown House arrival route and Academy94 studio spaces in advance where this would help you plan a visit or meet mobility, sensory, communication, safeguarding or support needs. Contact Academy94 to request a copy or discuss the route with us.
The map supports orientation and advance planning. It does not replace current fire-safety signs, alarms, staff instructions or the building’s official emergency procedures.
4. Sound, lighting and sensory information
Academy94 is a music-education and studio environment. Sessions and events may include loud or amplified music, bass frequencies, sudden sounds, headphones, low lighting, coloured lighting, moving visuals, haze and strobe or flashing-light effects. These can affect people with hearing loss, tinnitus, sensory sensitivities, migraines, epilepsy, neurodivergence or other health conditions.
Tell us in advance if you need:
- strobe or flashing effects to be disabled or avoided;
- lower volume, hearing protection or regular quiet breaks;
- a quieter waiting or learning space where available;
- advance information about sound, lighting or crowd conditions;
- extra time, written instructions or a slower demonstration pace; or
- permission to use your own accessibility or sensory equipment.
Some public events may have production elements that cannot be changed without affecting the event, but we will explain known conditions and consider reasonable alternatives, viewing positions or adjustments. If strobe or flashing lights are planned, we aim to provide a clear warning wherever reasonably practicable.
5. Learning, communication and assessment
We want students to demonstrate their skills without avoidable barriers. Reasonable adjustments may include extra processing time, rest breaks, written or visual instructions, repetition, alternative communication methods, accessible digital files, adjusted assessment arrangements, a support person or an alternative way of demonstrating the same learning outcome where the academic or safety standard is preserved.
Where captions or transcripts are not yet available for a tutorial, contact us. We will consider an appropriate alternative based on the content and the student’s needs. Tutors and staff should use respectful language, protect privacy and focus on the practical support required.
6. Children, young people and supported attendance
Children and young people under 18 must attend with a parent, legal guardian, authorised responsible adult or carer unless Academy94 has expressly agreed another suitable supervised arrangement. Studio hire must be booked by an adult, and the age, consent and supervision rules in our Terms and Conditions and any event listing also apply.
Where a young person is supported by a social worker, support worker, carer, personal assistant or other professional, we welcome early contact so that safeguarding, consent, access and communication arrangements can be agreed. The responsible adult must remain available and comply with site, safety and safeguarding instructions.
7. Inclusive conduct and safety
Harassment, bullying, intimidation, hate speech, sexual harassment and discriminatory conduct are not acceptable online or in person. We may take proportionate action, including removing content, ending a session, refusing entry or suspending access, where necessary to protect students, visitors, staff and the wider community.
Accessibility adjustments do not override essential safety requirements, but we will not apply a blanket restriction where an individual assessment and reasonable adjustment could remove or reduce the risk.
8. Feedback, complaints and response
We welcome accessibility feedback, including reports of content that is difficult to use, inaccessible documents or videos, problems with forms or navigation, and barriers at Crown House. Email team@academy94.co.uk with the page or service, a description of the problem, your preferred contact method and any deadline caused by a booking or event.
We will acknowledge the request and aim to respond within a reasonable time based on urgency and complexity. If you are unhappy with our response, ask for the matter to be reviewed by a senior member of the Academy94 team. This does not affect any right to seek independent advice or use a legal or regulatory complaint route.

We review this statement as the website, platform, studios and services change. We also use feedback, testing and identified barriers to prioritise improvements. The latest version will be published on this page.
